THEME

“Fake News versus Media for Peace”

Fake News versus Media for Peace

The Theme for SIGNIS ASIA Assembly 2018 “Fake News versus Media for Peace” was inspired by the Messages of His Holiness Pope Francis for World Communications day on Fake News and by the vision of SIGNIS-“Media Culture for Peace”. The Assembly will offer study days to focus on definitions, risks, and effect of Fake News in Asia and throughout the world. In addition, our participants will learn about how our Thai Youths used Social Media to prepare and participate in the Pre –Synodal Meeting for the Synod of Bishops XV Ordinary General Assembly “Young People, The Faith and Vocational Discernment”. We look forward to the outcome of this Assembly to produce strategic plans for combatting Fake News through the Media of Peace.

Motivational Speakers

The Study days will offer great plenary session by prominent speakers to inspire all of us, such as a key note by Dr.Chainarong Monthienvichienchai, Chancellor, St. John’s University Bangkok, former World President of UNDA, Consultor for Pontifical Council of Social Communication. Other plenary sessions will be facilitated by experts from the field of media such as Fr. Anthony Le Duc, SVD, Ph.D., Asst. Director, Asian Research Center for Religion and Social Communication, Lecturer, Lux Mundi National Major Seminary, Thailand, Dr.Theethavat Janevatchararuk, Lecturer, Public Relations Department, Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Assumption University of Thailand to talk about research on media. And of course, there will be ample opportunities for us to collaborate in group activities and workshops. As a bonus, there will be a mini-health screening for all participants at the Assembly on 14th August.
